The Erie Canal (in development) A romantic cruise on New York's Erie Canal turns deadly when a New York couple picks up a teenage runaway and her dangerous boyfriend in the new suspense thriller from Emmy Award nominated writer-director Gregory Orr.
The Erie Canal is a new motion picture project planned for commercial release by a group of New York filmmakers behind such movies as Michael Clayton, Boys Don't Cry, Before Night Falls, and the TV shows Rescue Me and The Day They Died. The production is currently seeking financial partners.
The Erie Canal tells the story of Jo and Jamie Martin, a New York couple, who hope a weeklong cruise along the scenic Erie Canal will mend their broken marriage. But when 16-year-old Jessie Slauson and her violent boyfriend Geoff force their way on board, the childless couple must battle for their lives in a nightmare struggle that pits youth against age, husband against wife. An intense psychological thriller in the Hitchcock tradition, with nods to such classics as Cape Fear, Dead Calm, Swimming Pool, and Polanski's Knife in the Water.
Production of the suspense-filled drama is set for an autumn shoot along New York State's historic 330-mile-long Erie Canal. Only the very top talent is being sought for the roles of Jo, Jamie and Jessie, characters who must navigate a dangerous course that begins in the warm, if staid safety of a long marriage, and concludes in the cold and unforgiving waters of the Erie Canal.
The current economic climate has caused a curtailment in film production, which will result in a shortage of feature films released in 2010 and 2011. The producers wish to take advantage of this shortfall by completing and releasing The Erie Canal within the next two-years. A private placement offering has been created with equity shares available to individual partners who satisfy the terms of the investment.
